How it works
At the heart of ecoDATA is an industrial grade, open source database that accepts both live and manual data from any source, in any format using and any protocol. Data transfer is typically via a hybrid mix of cable (Cat5, RS485) and radio (WiFi, 433MHz, Zigbee, 2/3/4G mobile) site networks and a Gateway/Bridge to the Internet either via the customers LAN or a mobile network carrier. Data arrives at our secure Cloud servers via the Internet where it is uploaded via an ecoLINK interface module. These modules allow our system to interface with any other system, meter, sensor or data logger. We have a growing range of ecoLINKs to suit most applications. Data can come via email, sms, ftp; whatever. Interval data can also be manually entered on line for any parameter such as invoiced usage and costs, monthly production figures, trade waste discharge volumes, hotel bed nights or the monthly weight of your cat. Live and manual data from the same DataPoint can be charted, reported and compared on line. Once captured, the data is checked for anomalies and corrective action taken; the validated raw data is stored in our commercial database. It is then normalised to get it into common units at standard intervals and aligned to standard calendar months. These steps are essential for aggregation and calculating KPIs across multiple buildings, systems, sites and portfolios. The system uses a major, internationally respected open source programming language. Powerful algorithms and over 3 million lines of code have been continuously developed since the system was released in 2000. -
Cloud Based SaaS
The data and software are hosted in the Cloud by one of the world’s largest data centre operators; Dimension Data. It is part of the NTT Group who operate 243 data centres worldwide and have 220,000 employees with annual revenue of $130 billion. Your data is very secure and quickly accessible from the their local Sydney data centre with a 99.99% Uptime Guarantee. Our servers have up to 16 CPUs and 128 GB RAM for maximum performance. High security is provided by VLAN segmentation with the network layer directly on top of Cisco Catalyst switches. VPN Server access, plus protection against DoS, DDoS, worms and botnets combined with SSAE16 Certification means you can rest easy. Your valuable data is backed up by BOTH Dimension Data and Rackspace in different data centres using ICT infrastructure completely independent from the ecoDATA operating system. To access the data and your information simply use the browser on your computer, smart phone or tablet to log into the ecoDATA web site. You will have instant access to the live information you need in the right format and categories to meet your reporting requirements. We manage the ecoDATA system software for you which allows you to focus on your core business while we focus on ours – the data and information business. A simple pay as you go business model that puts no demands on your ICT personnel. -
Retail and Wholesale
The system is available on a direct Retail basis for our own ecoCustomers or our Wholesale model allows ecoPartners to build their own business with their branding their own customers. Retail ecoCustomers – your Customer Administrator will have access to a limited number of our backend administrative modules such as the Public Alarm settings, automated report distribution, MultiView access permissions, KPI creation, Business Activity Indicators and Target setting plus User Access credentials. More advance admin functions such as logger configuration, channel mapping, logger and SIM card fleet management and ecoDATA reporting configuration will be managed by us. ecoDATA can be framed to a customer’s own web site. Users then access our system via a link on say the corporate environmental page and are then taken seamlessly to a system login page customised to match the corporate colours and with the company logo. Wholesale eccoPartners – have access to the full suite of ecoDATA Administration Tools so they can manage the whole system for all their own customers and their sites. User Management – both Retail and Wholesale users can be managed differently depending on their assigned User Permissions and the grade of membership. At the lowest level Users generally can only control such basic functions as the default Display at login, their Personal Alarm settings and Diary Notes with access only to basic charts and alarms.
